Summary[]

Headmistress Carson invites Dr. Amazing to give to the more powerful students a presentation on the destructive potential of their abilities. To ensure their attention, they are placed in Arena 99 under a communications lockdown.

Meanwhile, Ergonomic is putting the final touches into a personal project of his—a functional prototype Bolo. Unexpectedly, the tank is taken over by a rogue AI and activates, attempting to kill Ergonomic and Gunny Bardue.

Amelia Hartford notices the alarm and a simultaneous electronic attack on the school network, which keeps her from summoning help from the people in Arena 99. With some quick thinking, she manages to save Bardue and Ergonomic, but the Bolo exits the lab to the school grounds.

Hartford realizes that it's probably a Palm attack, and while Security fights off the Bolo, she attempts to deduce the goals of the attack, and takes steps to prevent its success, by summoning help from various parts.

A human-form Palm, passing for a new security officer, brings Hartford to a car, where the plan is revealed: the Palm intends to convert Hartford into one of its wetware hosts. However, it turns out that not only "Hartford" is a decoy impersonated by Bogus, but also the help she had summoned manages to neutralize and capture the "Adam" Palm cyborg.

Ergonomic receives a good grade for his project, but also considerable school punishment due to the damage caused by it—fortunately, with no loss of lives.
