Jerry Mendez, call sign Prison Bitch or Bitch for short, is one of the surviving members of the Marine "Equalizer" unit which is the basis for the urban legends of the Dragonslayers. Like all of the Dragonslayers, he's got a tattoo on his right arm of St. George with a spear through a dragon. He was the team sniper, and is totally amoral, a small-time thief, a womanizer and an all-around lowlife. He looks the part too, being more weasel-like than even Jobe Wilkins. Despite the Hispanic name, his appearance is fully Caucasian.[1]
Although the camaraderie of shared past danger makes the other Dragonslayers tolerate having him around, this only goes so far; they will violently punish him for transgressions. Erik Mahren, in particular, beat him almost to death for making his fiancée Cat McQuinston uncomfortable, and he has no doubts that Erik would kill him if he made moves in the direction of a kid.[1]

At the start of the 2007 school year, he's with the rest of the Equalizer crew when Headmistress Carson hires them to replace some of the staff lost the previous Halloween. He's assigned to third platoon.[6]
He makes a deal with Bobby Earl to help him smuggle equipment onto campus.[7]
